Deepak Sonar
About the artist
His artistic journey commenced with a degree in Art from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune, and a Diploma in Art Education from the renowned Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. Initially focusing on figurative paintings and portraits, Deepak's artistic evolution took a significant turn when he engaged with the Narmada Bachao Andolan alongside influential activists like Medha Patkar and Baba Amte. Inspired by the dynamic ideas of these activists and the flowing essence of the Narmada River, his art underwent a transformative phase.
Immersing himself in contemplation at Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal, Deepak expanded his artistic horizons beyond the confines of figurative art. His noteworthy achievements include a state award in 1991, a research grant scholarship from Lalit Kala Akademi in 1995, and a junior fellowship from the Ministry of Culture in 2000-2002.
